LinkedIn Optimization: How to Get Recruiters to Come to You in 2026
Your LinkedIn is a passive recruiting machine — if you set it up right. Here's the section-by-section playbook.
Why LinkedIn still matters
80% of tech recruiters use LinkedIn as their primary sourcing tool. A well-optimized profile doesn't just help when you apply — it brings opportunities to you.
The headline: your 120-character ad
Don't write "Software Engineer at XYZ Corp." That tells recruiters what you *have*, not what you *do*. Instead:
"Senior React/Node Engineer | Built products used by 2M+ users | Open to remote"
Lead with your stack, add a proof point, and signal availability.
The about section
Write it in first person, 3–4 short paragraphs:
- What you do and what you're best at
- Your biggest achievement (with numbers)
- What you're looking for next
- A call to action ("DM me or email me at...")
The experience section
Mirror your resume bullets, but you can be slightly more conversational. Every bullet should start with a verb and include a metric. Use the same keywords you'd put in a resume — recruiters search LinkedIn by keywords too. See our AI resume tips for how to write strong bullets.
Skills and endorsements
Add 50 skills (LinkedIn's max). Put your top 3 first — those show on the card. Ask former colleagues to endorse your top skills. Endorsements are weak social proof, but recruiters do notice the count.
The "Open to Work" banner
Turn on "Open to Work" but set it to recruiters only unless you want your current employer to know. Choose specific titles and locations to improve match quality.
Post content (even a little)
You don't need to be a LinkedIn influencer. Once a week, share:
- A short take on something you learned at work
- A project you shipped (with a screenshot or link)
- A useful tool or library you discovered
Recruiters see your posts in their feed, and it signals you're active and engaged.
Pair LinkedIn with your application workflow
LinkedIn gets inbound traffic. For outbound, use Smart Apply to send tailored applications and the ZyroJobs job feed to discover openings. Practice mock interviews before the recruiter call, and use our salary guide when the offer comes.
